Monday Morning Photo - Wisteria Time in Andalucia

How quickly spring comes around after the short winter here in the Sierra Sur de Jaén. After lots of very much needed rain we´re back to the normal cloudless blue.  My garden is shooting incredbily with the moisture and now sunshine. And my beautiful wisteria flowers grandly albeit it short-lived. The big black carpenter bees love it. Each flowering season reminds me of the Botanical Gardens in Malaga and the ´tunnel´ of wisteria that I haven´t yet caught in bloom. April is a good time to plan to go if it´s on your list.  Here´s the botanical garden link La Concepción Botanical Gardens. And a sneaky peak at the wisteria. See the Monday Morning Photos list.

Driving the Sunflower Route in Cordoba

Last weekend I border-hopped with hubby. We had some campsite inspections to do so popped over the provincial border into Cordoba. My home province is Jaen land of olive trees, major olive oil producer and home to Spain´s largest Natural Park. Jaen is mountainous and the views always stunning until nearing its westerly or northern border then the land becomes pretty flat.

To the north the plains of Castilla-La Mancha and windmills of Don Quixote beckon. To the west the plains of the Guadalquivir river stretch acroos Cordoba towards Sevilla and the Atlantic Ocean. This flat country plays host to bright yellow fields of nodding sunflowers and a great sight brightening up the parched ground and hay-baled fields.

I´ve named it the Sunflower Route or Ruta de Girasol, another gorgeous drive in the ´ to-do-one-day-book -in-my-head´. The towns en-route are all great interesting little stop-offs, especially Montilla the DO wine town full of bodegas - wine cellars which offer tours and tastings and the most fabulous sherry-tasting vinegar.
